Judaism sanctifies every kind of major life event - and many transgender and non-binary Jews are leveraging this power to celebrate their gender transitions. How can ancient ritual teach us to claim transition as spiritual and even holy, when to do so is still a radical act?

OUR SUBJECTS

We have three primary subjects:

-an Orthodox transgender teen who was kicked out of school when they discovered he was trans, and hopes to remain Orthodox at his secular university this fall

-a non-binary 11-year-old who is planning a gender neutral bet mitzvah ceremony with their two moms and queer Rabbi

-a conservative trans girl in the Bay Area who is inventing new ritual for inviting breasts into the world, based on the blessing of breasts and womb Jacob gives to Joseph
