When Laura terrifies a suitor chosen by her desperate family, she dons the identity of Ephraim and leaves for Bachelor, where unmarried miners live in murderous, testosterone-filled glory. But when his sister Alda is engaged to Bachelor’s worst man, Ephraim must choose between identity and family.

THE REAL BACHELOR, COLORADO

Hopeful miners race to the tops of mountains from all corners of the country. Colorado is suddenly filled with boomtowns. Here, miners (and anyone who can profit from them) live the way they want to live, beholden to no law or custom that they don’t choose for themselves.

Creede is a quiet, traditional mining town, where married miners live with their wives and children. Up the hill, the unmarried miners live in murderous, testosterone-filled glory. The only women here are in the whorehouse.

The perfect setting for a transgender character to make some noise.

A TRANSGENDER WESTERN

This is an iconic Western from a new perspective. Its success will be in entering a transgender character into the canon of classic Westerns. Kidnapping, shootouts, romance, and a rowdy town of taverns, whorehouses, and fights - these are the ingredients of Bachelor, Colorado.

In a Western, characters make their own law. We delight in watching our heroes create rules and identity based only on who is the strongest, beholden to no existing systems.

Transgender people are practicing self-determination every day. We assert our identities over and over, regardless of societal or familial expectations of gender. The Western provides the perfect frame for a transgender narrative.
